Hemp Oil – The Benefits, Uses, History and more
When you think about the word “hemp”, what comes to mind? Do you think about a plant, seed, materials, environmentalists, food or even clothing? Hemp can be used for various things, along with having amazing possible health benefits. But first, what is hemp exactly? (Industrial) hemp is a strain from the Cannabis sativa plant species. It is one of the fastest-growing plants that can be used for multiple purposes including paper, biodegradable plastics, food and more. Hemp is also popular in the Cannabis community because it is known to have a very low percentage of THC content; while having more CBD. Hemp has been cultivated for over 10,000 years, it was once the main source for food and fiber!
Hemp oil has a wide variety of benefits that you may not expect; hemp oil may promote skin health, including treating eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, acne and more. Hemp seed oil may promote health benefits to our most important organs, such as the brain and heart (if you still have one in 2019, but I’ll save that topic for another day). Ladies, did you know hemp seed oil may also help with PMS and menopause?! A study found that hemp seed oil decreased breast pain, tenderness, depression, irritability, and fluid retention. So men, if you’re tired of your girlfriend trippin’, crying randomly, and threatening to break up with you because you’re too busy playing 2K, get her some hemp seed oil!
When most people in the cannabis industry talk about hemp, one of the main topics that comes up is full-spectrum hemp seed oil. Many people, including cannabis product manufacturers, CBD companies and consumers, prefer full-spectrum hemp oil because it is known to be the most natural as well as having more notable benefits. Although Full-spectrum hemp oil is known for its CBD component, there are so many more aspects to it! With the powerful combination of full-spectrum hemp oil and CBD, it creates the notorious “entourage effect”; when combined, it magnifies potential healing properties. Full-spectrum hemp oil is a combination of cannabinoids, key nutrients, proteins, and healthy fats. Plus, it may provide natural pain relief, especially for inflammation issues.
What’s so great about this “entourage effect” anyways? And why are so many Cannabis & CBD product manufacturers and consumers so passionate about it? Well, one of the key points is the fact that when hemp oil and CBD are combined and consumed, it may potentially be able to target multiple medicinal concerns throughout the body at once. The combination improves and allows key active components to be absorbed more easily in the body (whether you’re human or a dog reading this article).
Did you know that hemp produces CBD at 20% or more? It also must have less than 0.3% THC to be sold legally. Hemp seeds, which could be cold-pressed for hemp oil production, has 0% THC and can be used as hemp seed milk, granola, or as an added supplement to blend in your cereals and more! Often CBD oil and Hemp oil get confused, so let’s set the record straight! First of all, CBD oil may have strong anti-inflammatory and pain-reducing benefits, from being added to skincare products to tinctures (even for pets!).
“It’s been used for centuries to successfully provide pain relief to muscle aches, arthritis, joint pain, neuropathic conditions, headaches, and to aid skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, even sunburn, and bug bites when used topically.”
Hemp seed oil (known as cannabis Sativa seed oil) does not contain ANY cannabinoids, such as CBD, THC or others, but it has amazing potential medical benefits. If this is the case, why do people get confused with the two? Yes, they both have great potential medical benefits, but if you TRULY want to reap the key benefits of CBD oil, although it can be expensive, it may be best to stick with CBD, versus hemp seed oil. Unfortunately, there has been a large number of companies in the cannabis industry who have been misleading their customers with claims that their products contain CBD, when, in fact, it doesn’t!
“Some brands are calling hemp seed oil Cannabis sativa oil, which is deceiving.”
“The biggest issue is that hemp seed oil and CBD are two totally different compounds that come from different parts of the hemp plant, have different makeups, and different benefits,”
To avoid this confusion, be sure to continue educating yourself on the different uses and benefits. Carefully read the product label’s ingredients and buy from a trusted source with positive reviews.
Yes, hemp oil has many uses and benefits, but are you aware of hemp oil’s environmental impact? Hemp is considered environmentally friendly because of its decrease in land use and ecological footprint. With hemp there are so many ways we as humans can reduce our carbon footprint, utilize natural resources to save money and environmental damage. As 2020 is approaching there is an increased amount of natural disasters occurring, abuse of our planet’s natural limited resources, and more. Hemp should be incorporated into our lifestyle for the sake of the Earth and our personal health. Are there any more uses of hemp that weren’t mentioned that you can think of?
